Overview
The 6-Day Marangu Route is a classic way to climb Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m) while enjoying comfortable hut accommodation along the way. Unlike the 5-day option, this 6-day itinerary includes an important acclimatization day at Horombo Hut, significantly improving summit success rates.
Often referred to as the “Coca-Cola Route,” Marangu is the only Kilimanjaro route offering dormitory-style huts with beds and solar lighting.

Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival – Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport, your professional mountain guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi.

Day 2: Marangu Gate (1,980m) → Mandara Hut (2,720m)
After breakfast, transfer to Marangu Gate for registration and begin your trek through lush rainforest.
This forest zone is home to blue monkeys, colobus monkeys, and colorful tropical birds.
Arrive at Mandara Hut by early afternoon.

Day 3: Mandara Hut → Horombo Hut (3,720m)
Climb steadily into the heather and moorland zone with open views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.
Arrive at Horombo Hut, a key acclimatization stop, and enjoy lunch before your health check.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day – Hike to Zebra Rock (4,000m)
Today is dedicated to altitude adaptation.
Take a short acclimatization hike to Zebra Rock (4,000m), named after its distinctive black-and-white striped appearance.
Return to Horombo Hut to relax and allow your body to adjust before heading higher.

Day 5: Horombo Hut → Kibo Hut (4,720m)
After breakfast, continue your ascent into the alpine desert zone.
Reach Kibo Hut, your summit base camp. After lunch, rest and prepare your summit gear for the midnight climb.

Day 6: Kibo Hut → Uhuru Peak (5,895m) → Horombo Hut
Summit day begins around midnight.
Climb steadily to Gilman’s Point, then continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) — the highest point in Africa.
Celebrate at sunrise before descending to Kibo Hut briefly and continuing to Horombo Hut for recovery.

Time: 6–7 hours up / 4–5 hours down

Day 7: Horombo Hut → Marangu Gate – Transfer to Hotel
After breakfast, descend through rainforest back to Marangu Gate.
